When retro isn't cool

I have many natural gifts (parallel parking, near perfect balance, long nail beds) but I have been forced to admit that I cannot dress myself for sport.  Everything I own is high school gym issue circa 1987.  I'm like something out of the Royal Tenenbaums.  And I have tried to shop at Lulu Lemon (with my gift card from last Christmas) but I always feel like the newfangled athletic gear is laughing at me. Like it knows somehow that I haven't strapped on a pair of trainers since I was a teen.  I am stumped.  How do other ladies make sporty look so spice?  Why can't it be like that for me?  Where is my retainer??

Love,
Kristen

  1. You are sexy in anything. And it's so exciting that you are sporting it up. I, on the other hand, love to wear darling Nike Tennis outfits. Little skirts, tops and dresses....and I have never lifted a racquet. I'm not even hitting the gym at this point. I'm just trying to get used to Oklahoma and quietly sobbing myself to sleep.

  2. It's harder then you would think to dress cute for sports! It's leggings and tanks and long sleeve tops and zipper tops and hoodies. And they all go together? I'm really just in completely over my head. Love you too!

  3. You have to be willing to wear something form fitting. And you are not.

  4. That is true, ST. I keep hearing, "oh this stuff is the best it really holds you in!" I don't want to be touched by my clothes, much less held. Maybe I have some form of tactile oversensitivity?

  5. Stick with what you know. 1970's gym shorts are cool again. I'm sure you had a hand in that.
